Re: After School App PDF Print E-mail
Attention parents and guardians,

We are aware of an App being used by numerous schools around Southeast Indiana where students can post anonymously about anything they choose. The App ties itself to a school by geographic region. A student must use their Facebook and their driver's license to verify their account. As you can imagine, the ability to post anonymously has raised concerns here and at other area high schools. This is the App that ties to JCHS https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/after-school-funny-anonymous/id918396645?mt=8

We are approaching the issue in a number of ways.
1) We've blocked access to the site through all school services. However, this does not prevent a student from using their personal or family data.
2) We've contacted the company and Apple to have the App removed from the App Store. The App was removed form the App Store for a period of time but is, unfortunately, back.
3) We're investigating each case that comes to the office, but this process has been quite challenging due to the anonymity of the App. And, the company has not proven to be helpful in this process with Jennings County or any other high school.
4) Our Apple rep has suggested that we start and submit a petition asking for the removal of the App from the App Store. Here is the link for the petition. Please sign and assist us in the elimination of this nuisance to our students, staff, and community.

The petition: "Apple, Facebook: Remove the app "After School" from the itunes store and facebook because it promotes cyberbullying and is not school appropriate." Our goal is to collect as many signatures as we can supporting the safety of our students. You can read more and sign the petition here:

We appreciate your assistance in dealing with this issue.
